Stephen & Natalie

Our story began over two years ago just before I moved to Calgary and Natalie stayed in Ottawa, beginning a relationship that has brought many hardships and joys. Meeting only 5 weeks before starting a long distance relationship was not expected, as most of the greatest things in life begin. However, as students, we had little money to spend on each other, and seeing as flying home was not realistic, the little money that we did have we pooled together to see one another. While getting to know each other we would talk for hours, phone conversations lasting from 4 to 5 hours a night and racking up impressive phone bill statements.

As time went by we grew towards each other in how we felt, but not in the distance that separated us. It was decided before the end of my program that I would finish my thesis in Ottawa so that we could be together. During this period I also worked full time to make ends meet. While things were tough, our zany lives and the fact that we were together kept our spirits up.

This past September Natalie and I flew out to Calgary where I successfully defend my thesis. With pure excitement I asked Natalie to marry me on the Bow River. You wouldn’t have met a happier couple in the world that day. While we could have waited even longer to get married, Natalie’s opportunity to attend post-graduate school next fall would have prolonged this an additional 4 years. It was after much deliberation that we decided that in October 2007 we would get married. This left little time to save money for the biggest day of our lives.

Up to this point we have managed to do everything thus far by ourselves and having free wedding photography would allow us to spend money where we need it elsewhere. We are keeping the wedding small to keep it intimate and the costs down. I had no idea a wedding cost this much if any guy reads this they will know what I mean. At this point Natalie and I are happy just to have a wedding day, but the opportunity that Jenna has provided would make the following year even more exciting having one less thing to worry about(and one great one to look forward to).

Another complication that we face is that Natalie and I are very close to our families and many of them live far away (Natalie’s family lives in Belgium on a military posting, some of my siblings are in Jerusalem, and Bangladesh); as such, the photos that Jenna will take are the only means by which some of them can remember the day by (as we see some of them as infrequently as once a year). We thought for a long time about capturing the day ourselves with personal cameras but then realized the true value of these photos to these long distance family members.

As Natalie and I start our lives together we want to be able to look back at our wedding pictures and remember the joy of that day, and not to feel the guilt associated with the things in our lives that we could not afford to have. With this opportunity we would be able to capture the happiness that everyone will be able to share when they return to their respective homes for generations to come. We would be forever grateful.

Stephen

Hi Jenna,

I totally vote for Natalie and Steve. They told me all about you and how
exciting it is that you're going to take their pictures, what a bonus for
them if it could be free!
You sound really cool and I'm looking forward to meeting you next October!

I have only had the pleasure of seeing Natalie grow up by way of photographs from her parents. Therefore, I find it ironic that I would get an opportuntity to vote for for Natalie and Stephen to win the photo contest.

Congratulations and wish you both much happiness and good health

Hi Jenna!

I love photographers from Belleville because I married a beautiful Redhead named Brenda born in Belleville...My favourite hockey player is Bobby Hull from Belleville and Natalie's Dad John from Belleville living in Belgium taught me how to fly and I was told by Debbie does Bellville&Belgium to vote for Stephen&Natalie as it would be a beautiful Belleville story!!!

Therefore the Beautiful Jenna from Belleville should choose Steve/Nat as the winners!!!

Capt Joe from Bedford,NS which is a long way from Belleville!!!

My wife & I both vote for Steve & Natalie (does that count as two?) No, I didn't think so.
The photograph beautifully captures the love and joy that these two obviously share. We've known Nat for a long time and you can just see how she shines in the presence of "her man". A lovely picture, well done!

I don’t know Stephen, but I’ve know Natalie for over 10 years, and think she’s an awesome person. I know that Stephen makes Natalie really happy, and after seeing some of what Natalie’s been through, it’s nice to see there’s someone who can make her so happy. Go Natalie and Stephen!

I would like to vote for Stephen and Natalie because I've known Natlie since
I was little and her smile is so beautiful that the pictures should pay her
to be taken...so I guess free photography is a fair substitute :P.

I would like to give my vote to Stephen and Natalie please.
Their story is very sweet and make a cute couple.

They must be destined to be together forever as they have managed to make it over a rocky road of romance and reality and are coming to the end of this particular road to make the "right" turn into a long life together facing situations head on with strength, compassion and love.
Cheers to you Stephen and Natalie!

I would like to cast my vote for Stephen and Natalie.

Stephen is my youngest sibling, and I know how happy he has been since Natalie has come into his life. My husband and I also went through a protracted long-distance relationship prior to getting married, and know how important communication through words and pictures can be. My family currently lives in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and we miss Stephen and Natalie very much. We will be coming home to Canada for the wedding, and other family will be coming from the U.S., and Israel. We would love to have some high-quality, professional pictures of this very rare occasion when my extended family is all in the same place at the same time.

I vote for Stephen & Natalie. It's tough enough to have family far away in times of need, let alone the one you love. I think free wedding photos to spread the happiness of their vow to each other, with their families over seas would be a wonderful gift for such an obviously loving couple.
VOTE FOR STEPHEN & NATALIE!!!!

We are Natalie's parents and very proud that Stephen wrote this himself! We live in Belgium and are here because my husband is in the military and this is where his job is for the next 2 years. It is hard being this far away during Natalie and Stephen's wedding plans. We had a friend take our photos for us at our wedding as we were on a limited budget and couldn't afford a photographer. We have been married for 25 years now and know how important this wedding day will be for our oldest daugher and our soon-to-be son-in-law!!! Good luck you two!

We are Natalie's parents and very proud that Stephen wrote their story! It's hard being so far away from Canada but my husband is in the military so we are in Belgium for three years. It would be nice to be there and help with the wedding plans! When we were married 25 years ago, we had a friend take our pictures which was all we could afford at that time. It would be nice for Natalie and Stephen to have photographs done professionally. Good luck to both of them in this contest!!!!!

I vote for Natalie and Stephen. I’ve known Natalie for over 10 years. She’s a smart, kind, and generous young lady. She’s quite independent and works very hard for what she wants or needs. She’s putting this wedding together with her parents an ocean away due to a military posting and phone and e-mail just don’t replace having them close at a time like this. I haven’t met Stephen but I hear he is a perfect match for Natalie.

I would like to vote for Stephen and Natalie. It is nice to see a happy young couple getting married and starting their lives together rather than waiting for better financial times. Stephen doesn’t have many dollars – but he had the good ‘cents’ to propose to Natalie!

Hi

I would like to vote for Natalie and Steve in your wedding photo contest. Hope all the couples have a magical wedding day, especially Natalie and Steve.

My vote is for Stephen and Natalie in the Wedding Photography Contest.

Stephen and Natalie's young love story reminds me of my parents' romance that started 50 years ago and my parents still are romantically in love!

My parents, Joanne and Don met and quickly fell in love. Unfortunately, the Korean War almost immediately
separated them. However, my parents wrote each other a
lot while my father was away in the Navy. Grandmother Florence attributed their lasting marriage to my parents starting a romance using correspondence. She
thinks they knew each other in a deeper more meaningful way because the distance limited connecting
to correspondence.

Stephen and Natalie's romance story is equally promising for similar reasons. I heartily cast my vote for Stephen and Natalie!
