Ugh....

My son is nine years old and still sits in the middle of the back seat of our car. Every Sunday we have dinner at my moms, watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition and come home.

Tonight my son somehow ends up tangled up in his seat belt when he tried to remove it. I have no idea how it happened but he was totally wrapped in it and as he saw it the same as I did he panicked and started to struggle with the belt making it even tighter to the point that it was cutting into his skin and I had to ask him to suck in his stomach to help with it being so tight while I held the belt out as best I could trying to figure a way out for him. He starts crying of how it hurts, and I don't see a way out so I told him I needed to cut him out as it only got tighter the more he struggled with it as he couldn't stay calm. I run to our house, unlock the door and get our only dull scissors in the house as the good ones are in the studio for cutting my backdrops...just when I need them! Our scissors would not even break a bit of fabric on the belt :( So, off to the neighbors I go in a mad rush for some sharp scissors trying to hold back tears while my son is crying in the car in pain with this belt he is stuck in. Luckily they had some great scissors and I was able to cut him out right away. He now has red burn marks on his waist with cuts that bled.

Is that not completely bizarre??? I have no idea how this happened and even though I knew I could cut him out if I could not untangle him it was pretty scary...mostly just to see him upset and scared while crying in pain as the seatbelt was cutting into him -- poor guy. I probably start carrying a pair of scissors in my car after that.

So, for now we are without a middle seatbelt. I'll have to get that replaced after our hack job.

The rest of my single mom duties tonight involve getting his gear ready for his first day of hockey camp tomorrow...now that's exciting :)

Poor guy! That is such a random and crazy thing to happen. Maybe we should all start to carry scissors with us. Hope he feels better and has fun at hockey camp. :)

Wow, that is so scary! Sounds like you handled it really well!
Maybe you should let the manufacturer of the car know~ There may be a recall or something~ Or maybe there should be a recall!!
I hope he has a great time at Hockey Camp!!

Mercy! What a story! I hope he's feeling better. Nothing a little TLC and ice cream won't solve, right? (if it only were that easy!)

Wow Jenna, I hope he's doing OK. I would definately go to your dealer to let them know. Just so it doesn't happen to anyone else.
